Theodoret of Cyrus (4th-5th c.) was a native of Antioch, educated in the monastery schools, and eventually was consecrated Bishop of Cyrus in Syria. He became known for his great wisdom, munificence, and opposition to paganism and heresy. Theodoret's arguments for the active governance of God are not so profound as is the organization and presentation of his rhetoric as an apologist. These ten addresses were likely delivered in Antioch around 435 A.D. This is an English translation based on the Migne text of his work, ON DIVINE PROVIDENCE. Annotated. The Ancient Christian Writers series features translations of the works of the Fathers.
