This preprimer helps students learn beginning and ending consonant sounds, middle short vowel sounds, and digraphs ch, sh, and th. The activities teach sounds in words and words in sentences. Basic words needed for good sentence sense are included in the lessons, or in correlation activities. Pupils should learn to spell the words taught with the short vowel sounds. Activities are presented in brief lessons in boxes labeled with letters. This format is designed to help pupils keep their places in the workbook. Also, this format is typical of achievement tests with test items in separate boxes. Other activities are included to give pupils learning experiences in categorizing, discrimination, matching items, filling in blanks, singular and plural, using periods and commas, and capital letters.
