The 1960s was a decade of change. It began with John F. Kennedy's election and ended with Apollo 11's landing on the Moon. Pop music went from strength to strength: John, Paul, George, and Ringo sang ' I Wanna Hold Your Hand' and Beatlemania swept the nation; The Beach Boys went 'Surfin' USA' and the Monkees came and went. Tv faves included Dr. Kildaire, Bewitched, and Batman, while at the movies Elizabeth Taylor starred as Cleopatra and Jack Nicholson and Peter Fonda created a cult with Easy Rider. The 'summer of love' the Monterey Pop Festival and Woodstock became symbols of a new generation, as men grew their hair and women wore shorter skirts. It was a decade that swept away all that had gone before, once the 1960's had ended, things would never be the same again.
