Robert E. Lee loved his country, and he waqs proud to serve the United States as a soldier. But when the Civil War began, he felt it was his duty to lead the armies of the South and fight for his family, his home state of Virginia, and his way of life. Robert was a gifted general, and his men were very loyal to him. He led his troops in victory after victory. Eventually, though, the North won the war. Still, Robert would always be remembered as a hero of the Confederacy.
