Little Bear becomes discouraged during his first days at school and decides that learning to read, write, and count is not important. But when he can't count out his pennies for candy and then later sits down in wet paint, he discovers that he wants to learn after all. His reward comes when he is able to read an invitation from Eddie Squirrel and can count the flags in order to find the party. Use as a read-aloud or for the beginning reader.
