Visions of heave, but a heaven populated by saints so much like people she knw, inspired Elisabethof Schonau to struggle on her path up the mountain of God as well as to proclaim these visions to others. From the age of twenty-three, this Benedictine nun felt herself to be graced with divine visions, which she soon came to understand as intended for the edification and consolation of the whole church. The works that record Elisabeth's accounts of her visionary experience offer great insight into how the communal liturgical culture of a Benedictine monastery could shape the interior life and prophetic identity of a woman committed to its ideals. This volume presents the complete works of Elisabeth: three visionary diaries, a book of sermons depicting the diversity of possible fatihful Christian lives a series of revelations about the famous martyrdom of the Eleven Thousand Virgins of Cologne, a brief text about the bodily assumption of the Virgin Mary and a collection of Elisabeth's letters. Also included is a text describing the last days of Elisabeth's life, written by Ekbert, Elisabeth's brother and secretary.
