Can love be rekindled if only a few scattered embers remain? What if there never was much of a flame? The marriage of Scott and Ginger Oliver was deeply flawed from the beginning. Yet, in spite of many trials and a long separation, this is essentially a love story. When Scott drives away, Ginger is compelled to do some real soul searching and discovers she does not like the person she sees. She also considers her husband in a new light and belatedly realizes she is still in love with him. The day after Scott's departure, Ginger begins a long quest to recapture her husband's love. Scott is determined to begin a new life without his peppery wife. As World War I approaches in Europe, he joins the Army Signal Corps and becomes a fighter pilot. Several months later, his airplane crashes behind enemy lines, and Scott ends up in a German hospital. He becomes strongly attracted to a nurse, who falls in love with the dashing pilot. Months later, on a troop ship filled with returning POW's, Scott tries to disentangle the past and face the future. What will it hold for Scott and Ginger?
