The Unlikely Disciple: A Sinner's Semester at America's Holiest University by Kevin Roose is a memoir of when he left his liberal, Ivy League school, Brown University in his sophomore year to attend a semester at conservative Liberty University. Liberty University is the late Reverend Jerry Falwell's 'Bible Boot Camp' for young evangelicals. Students there take courses like Evangelism 101 and follow a forty-six page code of conduct that regulates every aspect of their social lives. Roose enrolls at Liberty as a new transfer student, hoping to connect with his evangelical peers, while reporting on his findings along the way. During the semester, he attends an evangelical hip-hop concert to a Spring break mission trip to Daytona Beach. He meets pastor's kids, closet doubters, Christian rebels and conducts the last print interview of Rev. Falwell's life.
