Singapore's Visible Thinking in Mathematics is a supplemental program that's perfect for students who could use additional guidance on the pictorial stage of Singapore's Concrete> Pictorial> Abstract method. Step-by-step explanations and strategies will help students visualize concepts--encouraging them to learn how to solve problems by 'seeing them'--before they move on to more abstract skills. Questions develop a mastery of the actual concepts involved by presenting students with problems that feature the same context with different words, helping them to firmly grasp the difference between similar concepts. Critical thinking is also encouraged through questions that ask students to think about the ways in which they solved the problem. Visible Thinking Math 3A is designed for the first-semester of Grade 3. Each chapter features a 'thinking platform' page that models the concept through examples; teaching notes at the bottom of the page provide a lesson focus for the teacher. This lesson-page is followed by the 'Attaining Mastery' worksheet pages. Concepts taught in this 3A text include: numbers to 10,000; addition and subtraction within 10,000; word problems involving addition and subtraction; multiplication and division by 6,7,8, and 9; multiplication and division; and mental calculations. 154 consumable (non-reproducible) pages, softcover. 3rd Grade. Answer key is included in the back of the book. Please note that this series has not been revised to reflect US-norms, and thus currency images in the money chapters are Singapore coins and bills. In addition, only metric measurement units are used.
