This text has been designed to assist parents and religious educators to do the following: To help children understand their feelings and attitudes toward death and dying, so that death will be less fearful and living more enjoyable and meaningful To develop a respect for life To help children deal with and grow through experiences of suffering and death To emphasize Christian beliefs about death and the afterlife To understand rites, rituals, and customs associated with burying and death To provide age-appropriate terminology regarding death and burial procedures
