The Holly Apostles Soup Kitchen in New York City is know nationally and internationally for its ambitious ministry to the hungry. Less well known is its Writers' Workshop, founded ten years ago by Ian Frazier to open a creative forum for soup kitchen guests. This book is an anthology or writings from that workshop, a small sampling of the thousands of pieces written over the years. Compiled by the Rev. Elizabeth Maxwell and Susan Shapiro, with an introduction by Ian Frazier, the essays and poetry--alternately funny, touching, and heart-breaking--give the reader a vivid insight into lives lived on the margin.
