Students tackle regions at a time, and learn to see shapes that correspond to the names of the countries; for example, the shape of Croatia is drawn to be a crow. Capitals are taught by adding an object to the initial country drawing that sounds like the capital name - so Zagreb becomes a grub in the crow's beak. Finally, geographical features are connected with simple sentences that build on the country name. Students fill in the blanks with the country name, capital name, or body of water/mountain/landscape feature. Students learn countries first and then progress to capitals and other information.
