TONGUES OF FIRE (1956) This is the true story of theMission to Hawaii that introduced Christianity to theIsland. This colorful docudrama was exquisitely photographedon locations in Hawaii to reenact the story of Kapiolani --one of the true heroines of Christian history. Here, toldjust as it happened, and photographed in her native Hawaiiwhere it occurred, is Kapiolani's story. A young missionarycouple, uncertain and inexperienced, arrive on the island ofKona just when Kapiolani's faith is being challenged. Thesuccess of the Christian faith in Hawaii over the 'falseheathen gods' of the native islanders at one point hung inthe balance. Queen Kapiolani defied pagan superstition andchallenged the fiery 'goddess' Pele at Kilauea todemonstrate her faith and convert savage islanders toChristianity. The film includes abundant authentic scenes ofvolcanic eruptions and footage of molten lava.
