Casimir Pulaski is most remembered as the dashing Polish cavalry officer who aided the United States' fight for independence with daring feats of courage and strategy. As a child, he learned what it meant to stand for justice from his father and he learned about the Catholic faith from his mother. Those two influences converged in his committed enthusiasm to fight for the rights of religious and national freedom. His story begins in his native Poland, where he sought to free Poland from Russia; in 1775, accused of treason and exiled, he made his way to France, where he met Benjamin Franklin. From there he went to America where, serving under Washington, he began to build a disciplined army from America's ragtag soldiers and left a lasting mark upon history. Ages 9 & up.
