After passing physical and written tests, firefighters are sent to special schools run by the fire department. Training at some of these schools can last from two weeks to six months. Firefighters may have to clean up a tanker spill or help a kitten trapped in a tree. Whatever the task, a firefighter's job goes far beyond fighting fires.
