If I had been allowed to choose
When Father willed which child was whose,
I would have done the same as He
And also given you to me. When first I held you in my arms,
You captured me with lovely charms.
We played with dolls and games and toys,
And we shared griefs and fears and joys.
I still recall your box of sand
And bed time tales of fairyland.
And now I see myself in you,
The way you laugh, the things you do.
And while we're two, we're also one,
And so we'll be when all is done.
Our love will grow and never end,
For you're my daughter and my friend.
I often see myself in you.
The way you laugh, the things you do.
Our love will grow and never end,
For you're my daughter and my friend.
