Trick Geography's The Americas and Oceania will help students remember the names of countries, their capitals, and topographical features through fun mnemonic tricks. Students tackle regions at a time, and learn to see shapes that correspond to the names of the countries; for example, the shape of Peru is drawn to be a cat that purrs. Capitals are taught by adding an object to the initial country drawing that sounds like the capital name - so Lima becomes a lima bean in the cat's mouth. Finally, geographical features are connected with simple sentences that build on the country name. Students fill in the blanks with the country name, capital name, or body of water/mountain/landscape feature. Students learn countries first and then progress to capitals and other information. Grades 3 & Up. The elementary schedule covers two maps per week (for an 9-week program) while the middle school & up schedule covers two to three maps per week (for an 11-week program). Tests are also included. Consumable and non- reproducible. PLEASE NOTE: The Trick Geography Americas and Oceania Teacher Guide (sold-separately) is required to use this student book; it cannot be used independently as it contains only worksheets, not the lessons themselves.
