Twelve-year-old Jed Cartwright has suffered abuse at the hands of his uncle long enough. When Uncle Matt threatens to sell his dog Wolf--the dog his father gave him just before he died--Jed decides to leave, and after finding a letter from an uncle in St. Louis, he and Wolf start on their dangerous journey. Along the way, Jed meets different people--some willing to help and others ready to use him. But he and Wolf keep going, looking for his family and someone to love him. Recommended for ages 8 to 12.
