KOREA: Crossroads of World Destiny (1953) is a recentlydiscovered, little known color documentary that provides acompelling snapshot of the social, humanitarian andpolitical conditions in 1953 war-torn Korea. The onscreenprologue sets the stage for the gripping images andbehind-the-scenes footage to follow: 'The Heart-seeking cryof a people whose physical suffering and spiritual need haveno precedent in the history of world missions. It took thesound and fury of the strangest war in the history of theworld to acquaint many English speaking Christians with theexistence of Korea. Terrain, climate, the people and theirway of life were unknown. And even now many identify theland only in terms of casualty lists, political arguments, and such contemporary bi-words as Heartbreak Ridge, the 38thParallel, and Panmunjom.' The doc includes exclusivebehind-the-lines combat footage and scenes of militaryweaponry and precision helicopter operations and extensivecolor footage of the U.N. and North Korea delegationmeetings during the stalemate at Panmunjom. Narrator:'Panmunjom ... As long as the world lasts, that word will beused whenever men speak of international frustration, doubletalk, and the merchandising of men's souls. The North Koreandelegation is the first to put in an appearance. The U.N.leader, Major General William K. Harrison, is known byChristians around the world as a devout believer. Day afterday it was the same. The two factions met for a few moments, neither had anything new to report, except perhaps tounleash a few tirades.' President Eisenhower's post-electionvisit to South Korea is also covered. Narrator: 'PresidentDwight Eisenhower's post election visit did much to heightenmorale among the South Koreans. Although Ike, because ofsecurity precautions, made practically no publicappearances, wherever he looked he found evidence of thispeople's unwavering faith in his ability to help them.'KOREA: Crossroads of World Destiny was written and producedby distinguished Christian filmmaker Ken Anderson, narratedby Ken Nordine, and photographed by Fred Jarvis, Missionaryleader and United Nations Correspondent.
