H. Vorgrimler offers us a view of the Christian sacraments, which takes into account contemporary understanding of symbols, of the history of the sacraments, of the positions formulated by Vatican II. He is careful to preserve tradition, on the one hand, but opens the reader to new insights of sacramental thought as well. Throughout the book Vorgrimler attempts to span these two sides of current Roman Catholic sacramental theology and liturgy. He not only speaks about sacramental liturgical life in general terms, but offers the reader a brief synopsis of each of the seven sacraments as well. Herbert Vorgrimler is a theologian, professor, and dean in Munster, Germany.
