The Spelling Plus curriculum will help ensure that your children can not only spell for their weekly tests, but apply their spelling skills to their writing . . . from the first draft onwards! Taking the approach that a word spelled correctly on a weekly test is just the first step towards mastery, this program encourages mixed review, dictation, and editing exercises to help students consistently spell well. Since 90% of English is comprised of 1000 core words, most of these words provide the focus for this curriculum (10 words for Level A, 165 words for Levels B-G; weekly lists of 15 words). It's recommended that teachers use activities to teach, with two recommended: a daily practice activity (10-12 minutes per day) and a daily dictation of four sentences (15-20 minutes per day). This book is written to teachers, and includes pedagogical explanations of the program and instructions for its implementation. Each week includes the weekly spelling list along with notes that cover patterns and teacher information. Notes for extending the lesson, review, and homophones, are also included as needed. Students will need to write their lists on separate paper, or use the (not-included and sold-separately) Spelling Plus Workbook. 168 pages, indexed, softcover.
