Making Math Meaningful Level 5 is comprised of a single student-directed consumable workbook (there is no parent-teacher guide for this level). Lessons help students understand not only the mechanics of 'doing math' but the why behind the formulas. Perfect for all learning styles, activities use manipulatives (for kinesthetic learners), conversations (auditory learners), and pictures (visual learners) to help communicate concepts. Rather than just memorizing facts and concepts through a 'drill and practice' approach, Making Math Meaningful approaches children as specially created by God with the ability to reason, understand, and conceptualize how math is applicable to life. Lessons explain each concept to students with examples and exercises integrated throughout. Concepts covered include place value (including adding or subtracting numbers larger than 999,999), write equations involving multiplication or division as needed by the word problem, division of numbers less than 10,000 by a 2-digit number, add or subtract common fractions, work with mixed numbers, describe patterns, and more. A suggested schedule of 1.5 to 2 hours for two to three days per week is recommended. A list of objectives in checklist form is included, to be checked off as each concept is mastered. A line-listed answer key is provided at the back of the book. 336 pages, softcover. Consumable and non-reproducible.
