Dawn and Adam are now adept at using the Coupler technology, but they are still learning about the world outside their community. While their commander tries to find out more about the R.A.T. (Robotic Alien Technology) invaders, he gets himself stranded in space. At the same time back on Dawn's family's farm, her grandfather falls into a coma, and Dawn's little sister seems to be dealing with the situation in a peculiar way. Dawn is torn between her duties in the Tech Corps and visiting her home. Fortunately, her bond with Adam has developed to the point where they can share their concerns with each other, and the resolution of both crises just might be pivotal in solving the mystery behind the R.A.T.s!
