Church Dogmatics Vol 4.1: The Doctrine of Reconciliation - The Subject-Matter and Problems of the Doctrine of Reconciliation; Jesus Christ, the Lord as Servant
Barth's opening part-volume in the Doctrine of Reconciliation sets forth his theology of the atonement. This central doctrine of the Christian faith is exposited in a characteristic Barthian triad of confession: Jesus Christ is very God, very Man, and God-Man. In the present volume Barth treats the first theme in this three-fold confession, beginning with Christ as the true God who becomes human, taking the form of a servant.
