Why does preaching no longer command the attention and engage the interest it once did? Has the church forfeited the favour of God by losing sight of the central task of 'preaching the Word', turning instead to quick 'how-to' messages addressed to people's 'felt needs'? Preaching is in a state of crisis, evidenced most seriously by immaturity, confusion and ignorance among professing Christians, as a result of the poverty of what is being preached. The remedy, Dr. R. Albert Mohler affirms, is to obey Paul's parting charge to Timothy: 'Preach the word...in season and out of season' (2 Tim. 4:2). Dr. Mohler's address is a powerful call to preachers to do just that.
