In this study and translation, Vermes offers information on the history, religious ideas, and context of the Dead Sea Scrolls. This edition has been considerable enlarged through the inclusion of the Temple Scroll and other material. The three introductory essays, composed before 1962, have been replaced by an abridged version of the corresponding chapters, reproduced from The Dead Sea Scrolls: Qumran in Perspective. This collection is not all-inclusive.
Geza Vermes is Professor Emeritus of Jewish Studies at the University of Oxford.
