On previous occasions, Jesus had appeared to and vanished from his disciples, but this time was different. He was taken up into the sky until a cloud hid him from view. Then two angels announced that he would return again in this same way at a future date. In The Ascension of Christ, Patrick Schreiner sees the ascension as the fulfillment of Christ's threefold office of prophet/priest/king.
