An ongoing seminar of leading Lutheran theologians and scholars took the arts as the point of departure for considering the role of religion in public life, particularly the ways in which intellectuals and academics might participate. Nine contributors have penned chapters that variously consider philosophically and theologically the emergence of religious meaning, its embodiment in the arts (especially music and literature), and the spirituality it nurtures.
