Aidan Kavanagh, O.S.B., Professor of Liturgics, the Divinity School, Yale University, proposes in this study of the history of Confirmation that new framework be considered to view the origin and reform of this long controverted sacrament. Father Kavanagh's careful, scholary work on historic evidence points to a new clarification of the fundamental relationship between baptism, confirmatin, and eucharist: the sacraments of initiation restored by the Second Vatican Council to 'crown the whole grace-laden way of coming to ecclesial faith for the whole church.'
