Joachim Jeremias was one of the most innovative and productive New Testament scholars of the twentieth century. This volume brings together some of his best-known works on historical Jesus research and core issues concerning Gospel tradition. Jeremias attempts to reconstruct the Aramaic substratum of Jesus' sayings to reach Jesus' ipsissima vox.
This edition has added footnotes and bibliographies, uses the RSV for Bible translation, contains added references and indexes of authors, ancient documents, and foreign terms and phrases. There is also a minor amount of overlap between the chapters, due to their origin as independent essays and lectures.
Joachim Jeremias was Professor of New Testament at the University of Goettingen, Germany. He is author of several books from Fortress Press, including Jerusalem in the Time of Jesus.
