This volume on the Eucharist is divided into six sections. The first section deals with the shape of the eucharistic celebration during the first four centuries. The second section focuses on the East, particularly on the Byzantine liturgy. The third section directs attention to the historical development and shape of the Eucharist in Rome and the non-Roman West. The fourth section is devoted to the eucharistic liturgies outside Mass. The fifth section deals with particular questions, often of great pastoral and liturgical interest, such as concelebration, the mode and frequency of receiving Communion, and the Sunday assemblies in the absence of a priest. The last section fittingly reflects theologically on the Eucharist as celebration.
