Marriage between men and women of different Christian churches is relatively common in Canada and the United States. Such ecumenical marriages provide both opportunities and challenges. As a contribution ot the pastoral ministry of the churches to those entering into ecumenical marriages, the Consultation of Common Texts has prepared A Christian Celebration of Marriage: An Ecumenical Liturgy. This book is intended for baptized and practicing Christians. Furthermore, the bride and groom are viewed as the primary ministers of the wedding, the ordained clergy having the role of official witnesses and presiders over the liturgical celebration.
