In the author's words, we must face the awareness of knowing that all understanding is fragile.

We have to witness closely the debacle of institutions, ideas, personalities and projects. Postmodernism came to destabilize much of the solutions that worked for our parents and grandparents; Today your answers are no longer so useful for understanding the world around us.

All our history is symbolized in those two scenes of the gospels: recognition and denial. By the grace of God, we join Peter in the greatest affirmation of all: that the prophet Jesus is the Son of the living God. Out of cowardice, we joined Pedro and kept saying 'I don't know that man.' The church recognizes and denies, affirms and betrays, accepts and rejects. Twenty centuries of history are witnesses of that duality.
