Trick Geography's World Geography will help students remember the names of countries, their capitals, and topographical features through fun mnemonic tricks. Students tackle regions at a time, and learn to see shapes that correspond to the names of the countries; for example, the shape of Morocco is drawn as a maraca. Capitals are taught by adding an object to the initial country drawing that sounds like the capital name - so Rabat becomes a robot playing the maraca. Finally, geographical features are connected with simple sentences that build on the country name. Students fill in the blanks with the country name, capital name, or body of water/mountain/landscape feature. Students learn countries first and then progress to capitals and other information.
Grades 3 & Up. The elementary schedule covers two maps per week (for a 35-week program) while the middle school & up schedule covers two to three maps per week (for a 25-week program).
