Tomo is a pet raccoon, and his life is a simple one consisting of being friends with an old martial arts instructor and eating noodles. Lots of noodles. That is until a young girl comes into his life in the form of the old man's grand-daughter, Hana. Having just lost her mother, and having just flown to California from Japan, Hana doesn't feel ready for the new challenges that life has given her. But if she only knew what lies ahead! Trouble fitting in to her new culture and school pales to the strange happenings going on around San Francisco, and when reality starts to seem more like fantasy it can be a lot for an eighth-grader to take in at once! At least Hana has her grandfather and Tomo on her side...but how much help can an old man and a pet raccoon be? Recommended f or ages 11 to 13.
