Young black males often do not live to reach their 21st birthday. Juvenile violence emerges as black youth face little opportunity in a land of ever-rising expectations for white youth. Despite gains for some a deep loss of esteem continues to bury the hopes and dreams of African Americans who cry out for good news. Good news is best announced in preaching. So, two powerful preachers--one the dean of black preaching, the other a gifted young black preacher--combine to offer a boost to the self-esteem of African Americans.
