Joe Garrison returns from war, in hopes of recovering from the brutality of war and to rebuild a relationship with his seven-year-old daughter Daisy. He finds his daughter is quite attached to Esther, the woman who raised her. Being a father is more difficult that he had thought. Esther loves Daisy and despite her Amish ways, Joe finds himself drawn to her as a woman and not just a caregiver. What happens when Joe decides to send Daisy away to a school for the deaf?
