Why do we insist on learning math facts in isolation, by rote memorization, when we rarely approach any other form of learning in the same fashion? Making Friends with Numbers was created to help students build and strengthen knowledge of multiplication facts by creating an extra layer of connections. Facts are presented as connected to other facts or patterns; for example, students learn that 7x9=63 has two factors, 7 and 9, and exercises then focus on the importance of factor pairs.
These can be used as props by the mind, help students remember facts, and verify memory work. Perfect for students who have mastered multiplication, as well as those who are struggling, these worksheets will help students build familiarity with multiplication facts plus develop familiarity with number sense, conceptual understanding, and valuable mental patterns.
Four sections are provided: Multiples of 10, 2, 9 and 5; Square numbers 9, 16, 25, 49, 64, 12, and 56; Factors of 18, 24, 28, 32, 42, 48; and reviews that require specialized knowledge (for upper grade students who have knowledge of fractions). Each level is cumulative and offers practice on concepts previously learned, though students are encouraged to not move on before mastery is attained.
This book is a consumable student workbook and is not reproducible in any form. Softcover. Approximately 81 worksheets included. 3rd and 4th grade students on-grade level, or for older students who need remedial help.
