Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, The Dover Reader
Famed Scottish author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle actually began his work life as a ship’s doctor and ophthalmologist. While attending medical school, he wrote as a means to garner tuition. With his writing gaining acclaim, he elected to leave medicine in order to compose short stories and novels fulltime. The exploits of his most iconic character – the brilliant detective Sherlock Holmes – took the form of memoirs penned by Army medical doctor John H. Watson. But Conan Doyle was also well known in his time for his historical novels, political texts, and tales of fantasy and the supernatural. This anthology contains several of the Holmes stories, as well as the introductory adventure of Professor Challenger (The Lost World) and two brief supernatural pieces.
Contents: Sherlock Holmes Stories: A Study in Scarlet, “A Scandal in Bohemia,” “The Final Problem” and The Hound of the Baskervilles; Professor Challenger adventure The Lost World; supernatural tales “The Ring of Thoth” and “The Los Amigos Fiasco.”
