IVP's Bible Speaks Today series approaches important theological themes found in Scripture, rather than giving commentary on specific books. In this volume, The Holy Spirit, Keith Warrington seeks to explain the biblical role of the Holy Spirit in conversation with Church tradition. Yet, he also seeks to push the understanding of the doctrine forward to understand its place in contemporary culture and the religious life of the church. In effect, Warrington gives a 'theological exegesis' of the Bible's witness to the Spirit and its role in the believer's life. Warrington's scope covers both testaments, spending considerable time in developing the understanding of the Spirit in the Gospels, Acts, and in the Pauline epistles as well as the Old Testament.
