This Explorers to 1815 School Teacher's Manual is part of the Explorers to 1815 history series from Veritas Press, which is comprised of this teacher's manual (OR the enhanced school teacher's manual on CD, Homeschool Manual, or Homeschool Enhanced CD options), plus the Explorers to 1815 Card set, and Explorers to 1815 Memory CD, all of which are sold-separately; a list of recommended literature for this course is below. This teacher's manual includes student projects and worksheets that align with the cards and memory CD (not included). Projects include background information and accounts to read along with fun projects like salt-relief maps, making gold masks, making hand-dipped candles, map-work, and more. Worksheets provide reinforcement for remembering dates, names, and places. Tests provide an opportunity for assessment, and feature short-answer questions. Answers to all assignments are included in the back (line-listed format), including the writing exercises for cards. The appendix features a variety of reproducible blackline masters, history-based sentences in which students identify the different parts of speech, report forms, games, and more. This comprehensive manual is designed for a 36-week school year, with one week at the end of each quarter designated for review and testing; parents are encouraged to adapt to their own students, as this manual contains more information and projects than could be completed by one student in a year. Projects are marked in the answer key to indicate if they're suited for younger or older (4th grade and up) students. If using for 2nd grade and below, some work, especially in the beginning, may need to be done orally. While this program can be used with multiple ages, the recommended schedule is: - Grade K: Bede's History of ME
- Grade 1: Bede's History of US
- Grade 2: Old Testament & Ancient Egypt
- Grade 3: New Testament, Greece & Rome
- Grade 4: Middle Ages, Renaissance & Reformation
- Grade 5: Explorers to 1815
- Grade 6: 1815-Present
It is also recommended that students read engaging historical-fiction that complements the events that they're learning; chapter questions are included in this manual for the following recommended books (not-included): - Duel in the Wilderness
- Johnny Tremain
- Voyage to Freedom
- Witch of Blackbird Pond
- Yankee Doodle Boy
607 pages, loose-leaf pages in three-ring binder. Reproducible for classroom use. Grade 5. This is one of four teacher's guide options: the homeschool (print) teacher's guide or the homeschool enhanced CD-ROM, and the school (print) teacher's guide or the school enhanced CD-ROM. The difference between the homeschool and school print guides is that the homeschool guide is a softcover while the school version is in the format of loose-leaf pages in a three-ring-binder; in addition, the print and CD-ROM versions of the school and homeschool versions differ in that the copyright allows homeschool families to make copies for their homeschool and the school version allows teachers to make copies for their classrooms and homeschool co-ops. The content is identical.
