Bairn Bauer had been snatched as a boy, beaten and sold off in a gambling game. His parents were informed he was dead. He ends up in the hands of Captain John Stedman who teaches him the ways of a seaman. Years later, Bairn finds his parents and suggests the church and community his father has built, relocate to a safer area. His father will have no part of it. Anna Konig is in love with Bairn. His reluctance to settle down causes her not to feel safety and security with him. More years pass and Bairn again returns from the sea, now ready to settle down. If Anna could only let down the wall she has built up.
