The Geneva series is strongly Reformed in its perspective. Though some reference is made to the Hebrew (transliterated) in this volume, the translation is based upon various English translations, as the author sees fit. Discussion goes verse by verse, and for each Psalm there follows a section called 'Doctrinal and Practical Remarks.' The approach is more pastoral than scholarly. William S. Plumer graduated from Princeton Seminary in 1826, and was a well-known Southern Presbyterian preacher and writer. He also served as a professor at Columbia Theological Seminary in South Carolina.
