Hope Flanagan survived the massacre at the Whitman. The man she loved died in her arms. She heads to Oregon City to heal and live with her sisters while she takes care of their sheep. When the prosecutors ask her to testify against the Cayuse Indians, who are responsible for the massacre, she is not sure she can relive the loss again, yet if she does not testify, the attackers may come after her.
