He was the Urban Radio and Music editor at Radio & Records newspaper for twenty-one years. Walt is an associate minister at First AME Church of Los Angeles and holds a master's degree from Fuller Theological Seminary. He and his wife head the Walt & Sonya Love Foundation for Cancer and Lupus Research, a nonprofit organization. Walt resides in Los Angeles with his wife and son.
