In order to be able to effectively use Sequential Spelling 1, students should be able to read and spell at about a second grade level. Students should have a basic understanding of the phonetic sounds for each letter and be able to guess at the spelling of the words using that phonetic knowledge. It is not expected that they will guess the spelling correctly every time.
