John Pory of Virginia, Emmanuel Altham from England, and Isaack de Pasieres, a Dutchman from New Amsterdam, visited the Plymouth Plantation shortly after it was settled. Each came as an outsider and wrote letters home about what he saw, observing the people, the natural setting, and the community. These letters, printed together for the first time in many years, offer fascinating objective view of Plymouth from its contemporaries.
