The Scarlet Letter is designed for use with Literature for Christian Schools. Besides what is found in 'The Author' and 'The Novel,' additional references to literary aspects of this work are found in the chapter introductions and discussion questions. Some of the literary aspects, such as point of view and multiple explanations, are relevant to other chapters as well. Two to five discussion questions are provided for each chapter. Some of these will help you determine the students' literal understanding of the novel, but many of them encourage students to draw conclusions and to think reflectively about what they are reading.
